The Oscars is one of the biggest events of the year in Hollywood. The 82nd Annual Academy Awards hosted by Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin was held at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday (March 7). While the Oscars are all about the Academy Awards, the stars’ outfits at the show also play up the entertainment level in terms of fashion. Let us take a look at some of the best-dressed celebrities dazzling the red carpet last night.

First up, we have Penelope Cruz who looked amazingly stunning in a crimson Donna Karan haute couture gown. The 35-year-old actress is nominated this year for Best Supporting Actress in the film Nine. The dress was pleated and draped with an asymmetrical strapless neckline and is truly a red carpet hit. Docked in her warm scarlet gown with chopard jewels and soft updo, Penelope Cruz was indeed an eye-catcher.

I totally love her ashen pink earrings!!! Plus, she looked just as attractive with minimal makeup and accessories. I adore her fashion sense.

Rachel McAdams was another starlet that made a dreamy statement with her Elie Saab gown in a gorgeous watercolour print. I find that her dress really stands out from the crowd as it is simply unique. She kept it simple with only a pair of chandelier earrings and again, minimal makeup. It seems like the neutral shades of colours are in this season! I fancy her dress as it gives the impression of a very beautiful piece of wistful artwork with tints of blue as the main colour. I think the shade of this dress really compliments her fair skin tone so thumbs up to Rachel for choosing the appropriate dress.

Teen heartthrob, Taylor Lautner, the star of the Twilight saga, looked polished and not to mention HOT, in a Dolce & Gabbana tuxedo and Montblanc cufflinks. Actually, I believe he looks hot in almost any outfit (or even without a shirt, as shown in New Moon). Way to go, Taylor!

Tina Fey looked fabulous in a peek-a-boo black lace Michael Kors. Her dress gives her an elegant and sophisticated look. I love her one-shoulder silhouette and the cinched waist on her column gown. This exquisite dress really transformed her into a classy lady.

In general, the red carpet fashion in 2010 was quite memorable and exciting. I will always be looking forward to the starlets’ fashion choices in the year ahead (:

Hello! This time, perhaps, I should review on Love really hurts which is a solo by Yesung which is released in 2008 for a korean movie Tazza .I think this song has a very nice and calming starting from the piano. The vocals from Yesung could bring out the sadness of the song and it could touch your hearts, leaving them tearing along with him as the song is being played.

Other than the vocal part, the lyrics also played a major part in the song.As we all know, emotional songs(sad songs)mostly have lyrics that are quite cliche. However, I do not really think so.In this song, I can truly feel the desperateness in his voice such that he really agrees that the love really hurts.

To add on to the emotions of the song, vibratos were being used and this enable the listeners to be captivated by it.The last vibrato before the long high note is the most noticeable one and I can only say I am simply in awe. Other than that, in the bridge part, I can feel that he was totally pouring his emotions out with a very long high and strong note.

The harmonizing near the end of the song is also very strong. However, the thing that left the deepest impression on me is that LONG HIGH STRONG note from Yesung:D

Yes, Kathryn Bigelow is the winner of the Avatar V.S The Hurt Locker showdown. ‘The Hurt Locker’ swept six awards from the Oscars, leaving Avatar with no Best Picture nor Best Director.

For the first time in the eight decades of the Academy Awards, Kathy Bigelow is the first female director to win the Best Director Award.  When Bigelow went on stage to receive the award, she said with a stunned look, “It’s the moment of a lifetime.” Bigelow also added, “I’d like to dedicate this to the women and men in the military who risk their lives in a daily basis in Iraq and Afghanistan and around the world. May they come home safe.”

Besides this, ‘The Hurt Locker’ was the lead in this year’s Oscars, taking with it five other awards including Best Director. Some Avatar fans are disappointed that Avatar did not manage to clinch the award for Best Picture and many insisted that Bigelow’s film did not deserve the title.

To be honest, I was quite disappointed when I found out that Avatar did not received the Best Picture Award. Afterall, Cameron has put in a lot of effort in making sure that the film was in high definition and the bright colours and images found in the film really put an artistic touch to the film. However, the judging committee of the Oscars might have a different perspective and I feel that we should fully support their choice.

I would  like to comment on the winner of the Best Supporting Actress, Mo’ Nique from the film ‘Precious’ (2009, Lee Daniels). If any of you have read her life story, you will know that Mo’Nique had been sexually abused  by her eldest brother during her childhood. She said that during the filming of ‘Precious’, she channelled her unfortunate experiences into her role as Mary. I have not watch ‘Precious’ but after reading some articles I found online, I feel that it will be a great film for teenagers to watch as it would call out to teenagers on the awareness of some social problems that the director had touched in his 110 minutes film.

Overall, I feel that the Academy Awards 2010 was a mixed of disappointments and pleasant surprises but nonetheless, it has definitely started the year with a big bang! Lets look forward to next year’s Oscars and better movies to come in the year!
